The Properties of Leather

Generally the skin that we get from big animals but not from small ones is known to be leather. Leather is a durable and flexible material which is versatile.

We have different varieties of leathers which we get from different big animals including cattle, from which we have leather byproduct of milk and meats and a great source of leather production. Leather is unique because of its physical properties.

We are going to discuss something about the properties of leather:

Water Absorption Capability

This unique attribute brings comfort ability to users. For example, a person wearing leather shoe and somehow his shoe gets damped by the rain water.

In this situation he will get pestered with it which is a usual case. But though leather belongs to the quick absorption quality, it will soon absorb the water and back to normalcy.

Elasticity & Flexing ability

From the caption we can easily understand that leather can be flexed or bent easily without causing any harm or deterioration to it.

Authentic leather never gets cracked easily with flexing or bending, a quality that gives leather a long live. But after a certain time, repeatation of flexing can cause crack to leather.

Puncture resistance

Just because of the quality foreign objects can’t be easily punctured to it which provides no room for easy damage. Normal tearing, abrasions cannot bring any harm to leather because of the quality.

Permeability of water humidity

Actually leathers are mainly used to make products of our daily necessity including shoes, backpacks etc. The quality of water humidity permeability, which is also known as breathability, lets sweats extracted from human body out from shoe which increases its sustainability.

As a result the shoe and related other products get easily dried and gives comfort to the wearer lowering the moisture level. Waterproof leathers provide protection from wet conditions.

Softness

As we know there are two types of leathers including chrome leather and vegetable leather whereas unlikely to vegetable leather, chrome leather is softer. On the other hand, softness depends on thickness.

The thicker the leather is, the softer the leather is. The quality of softness depends on type of tannage, which is of several types. Increment of fatty material used in leather increases its weight.

Soft leather and hard leather have different field of use.

Artistic Surface

Leather is a material on which a manufacture can inscribe anything he wants to give it an artistic look with an eye to increasing the beauty and make it fashionable.

Sometimes real leathers provide a very natural look. Different color, texture and shape can be given to leather to make it an outstanding one.

Internment of heat

Actually, isolation means creating a barrier between the hot and the cold object that reduces heat transfer by either reflecting thermal radiation or decreasing thermal conduction and convection from one object to the other.

There is a vast amount of air in leather and air is a poor conductor of heat. As a result of this feature, leather can hold large quantities of water vapor that helps human being to comfortably take the item to skin indeed.

Thermostatic properties

It is one of the best qualities of leather that we rarely see among other materials. The quality definitely attracts users to use leather-made products.

It is such a quality that keeps leather hot in winter and cold in summer indeed.

Fire Resistance

The leather is inherently resistant to heart and flame. Normal level of heat can’t destroy leather fully but can slightly does. Leather can be highly affected by fire considering the combustion rate, extension and combustion time.

By the quality we can easily measure the durability of leather.

Chemical attack resistant

Modern leathers are tanned and dressed in such a way that can slightly resist harmful chemicals, a quality that protects a leather product from polluted environment.

Leather, which we get from skin, has become very popular because of its durability, elasticity and artistic design. In market we have four types of leathers including full grain leather, top grain leather, corrected grain leather and bonded leather.

It is needless to say that in how many ways leather is currently in use.

We are working with leather reviews to bring the best leather product for you so keep in touch.

We hope that by reading this article, you will be able to gain knowledge about the properties of leather.
